The team at Sunrise Dental are Gold Plus Invisalign providers.
How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is a state-of-the-art orthodontic system that uses clear plastic aligners to gently move teeth into their proper positions during treatment. The aligners resemble the custom trays used for at-home teeth whitening treatments, but their custom design and medical-grade materials make them virtually invisible while they’re being worn. During treatment, the aligners are worn in a specific sequence to keep teeth moving in the right direction.
What happens during Invisalign treatment?
Your provider at Sunrise Dental takes a digital scan of your teeth, as well as photos, as part of your initial records. No more goopy impression material! The team at Sunrise Dental uses the state-of-the-art iTero Element® 5D intraoral scanner to enhance every patient’s Invisalign experience.
The scan and other data is sent to a dental lab that specializes in Invisalign aligner fabrication. A special computer uses the data to create a series of 3D images that show how the teeth need to move over time to come into alignment and what each aligner or tray will do during treatment. The aligners are created based on these models, and each set is completely unique to your individual mouth.
Traditionally during treatment, your Invisalign aligners were designed to be worn for about 14 days each. However, Sunrise Dental is a provider of Propel Orthodontics. Offering patients an FDA-approved device that aids in better tracking, improved outcomes, less discomfort, and faster treatment times, the VPro+ allows patients to switch their aligners every week, instead of every 2 weeks. With only 5 minutes of use per day while wearing your aligners, you can get better predictability and in less time! You see your dentist every 4-6 weeks for about 10-15 minutes each time to ensure the aligners are working properly and that the teeth are tracking well. Many Invisalign cases can be completed in under a year.
What are the benefits of Invisalign compared to traditional braces?
One of the biggest advantages of Invisalign compared to metal or ceramic braces is the clear plastic design that makes them almost invisible while being worn. Many patients, especially adult patients who need their teeth aligned, name the visibility of metal and ceramic braces as the biggest drawback of treatment.
Invisalign clear aligners do away with that concern. The aligners are also removable, making it much easier to maintain a dental care routine throughout treatment, such as flossing and proper brushing. Plus, they can be removed when eating, which means you don’t have to worry about dietary restrictions that go hand-in-hand with metal and ceramic braces.
The aligners are also smooth, which makes them much more comfortable than metal and ceramic braces. And finally, because of the custom-design features, Invisalign treatment can usually be completed in a shorter amount of time than required by metal and ceramic braces.
Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?
Invisalign can be a great option for many patients, but they’re not ideal for all types of alignment issues. Having an evaluation is the best way to find out if Invisalign is the best choice or if another approach might be more effective.
Sunrise Dental is also a Propel Orthodontics provider, and the team may recommend the VPro+™ system as an alternative for you. Worn only five minutes every day, VPro+ offers predictable tooth movement and less discomfort than traditional orthodontic treatments.
